All PLS branches will closed Sunday, May 27 and Monday, May 28 for Memorial Day! We will resume regular hours on Tuesday, May 29.

Here is a brief history of Memorial Day via Encyclopedia Britannica:

Originally known as Decoration Day because citizens used flowers to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers after the Civil War.

Held services for both fallen Union and Confederate soldiers.

Orginally, this day was promoted as a holiday for May 30th "for the purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion.”

Memorial Day officially became a holiday in 1971.
