Newcastle Public Library
Activity literally surrounds the Newcastle Public Library. From youth competing on the soccer fields next to the library to the expansion of homes around the area in the growing city to hundreds of children attending class at the nearby schools, a visit to the library puts residents at the center of activity.
In 2019, the library celebrated 15 years in its current location after a move from several blocks to the east. It includes meeting spaces, dedicated areas for materials in various book genres and public computers and much more. Plus a fairly recent edition to the property is a community garden located behind the library.
It’s also a hub for programs and activities for all ages. A popular time is Wednesday morning, when families with preschool children are invited for Pre-K Story Time at 10 a.m., followed by Baby Story Time at 11 a.m.
The library also features dedicated events for teens and adults, and a Friday afternoon series for school-age children who are out of school as part of the Newcastle Public Schools’ four-day class week.
