NaNoWriMo is around the corner!

Are you a big fan of writing? Well guess what! National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is just around the corner and starting early at the library this year!
NaNoWriMo is a goal for participants to be able to write a 50,000 word novel starting November 1st to November 30th. It is a way to encourage both children and adults to become lifted in reaching their most creative potential and express it by writing a novel. There will be many events for those that are interested to participate at 3 of our branches (Norman Central, SOKC and Moore). Kids and adults are welcome!

Norman Central Library kicks off NaNoWriMo by starting early in October:

NaNoWriMo University: October 4 and 113-6 pm

NaNoWriMo Kickoff Party: October 25, 1-6 pm

NaNoWriMo Write-In: November 1, 8, 22, 3-6 pm

NaNoWriMo TGIO (Thank God It's Over!) Party: December 61-6pm

SOKC Public Library will be having 1 event:

NaNoWriMo Write-In:  November 153-6pm 

Moore Public Library will also be having 1 event:

NaNoWriMo Write-In: November 29, 3-6pm

NaNoWriMo believes that your story matters so don't miss out on these great events where you can be inspired to write your very own novel! 

Registration is not required to attend each of these events

footballExcited for the big game between the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns on October 10th? The Red River Showdown just never ends! Kickoff begins at 1:00 p.m. at the Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas, TX. 

Not able to make the game? No problem! Try out this BBQ Meatball recipe by Mark Gish on Tulsa World newspaper (article "Make-ahead recipes work great for tailgating, watch parties" by Bravetta Hassell, via EBSCOHost library database) that you can enjoy with family and friends while you're tailgating or watching right at home! 

Mark's BBQ Meatballs



  • 1 13-ounce can evaporated milk
  • 3 pounds hamburger
  • 2 cups quick oatmeal
  • 2eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoons pepper
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder

Meatball Sauce

  • 2 cups of ketchup
  • 1/4 cups brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoon liquid smoke
  • 1/2 teaspoons gralic powder


  1. Mix evaporated milk, hamburger, oatmeal, eggs, garlic powder, salt, pepper and chili powder. Shape mixture into walnut-size balls. 
  2. Mix sauce ingredients and pour over meatballs in a baking dish
  3. Bake 45-60 inutes at 350 degrees

Adopt a Shelter Dog Month!

puppyAre you looking for some more pawsitivity in your life? Someone that can make you smile in a heartbeat or a cuddle buddy that can warm your heart when you're having a bad day? Well guess what? October is ADOPT-A-SHELTER-DOG month!

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is promoting a message to "Make Pet Adoption Your First Option" to raise awareness about animal cruelty. Check out your nearest animal shelter and adopt a furry friend to take home. Make a difference in their hearts today. After all, they are known to be a man's best friend!
