Kids can show off their cooking skills in afterschool event

FoodThe Blanchard Public Library is looking for top young chefs for its Children’s Cooking program, an afterschool event at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24.

Students in third, fourth or fifth grades may take part in the event, which will take on a format like the Food Network show Chopped Jr. Teams of children will compete in multiple rounds of a cooking contest, making different types of items. The grand prize for the contest will be a special embroidered apron.

Participants are asked to have some previous cooking experience. Space is limited so registration is required in advance to participate, as is a waiver signed by parent or guardian.

Financial assistance for this special project is made possible with Federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services administered through the Oklahoma Department of Libraries.
