Travel the world through dances

Dance byljb2The Moore Public Library is on the move and giving the community some new ways to work out while learning about some new cultures through its Introduction to World Dances series, presented at 2 p.m. on Sundays in February, on Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 26.

Topics for the presentations are:

Feb. 5Greek Syrtaki, also known as the Zorba dance, is set up like a line dance with a lot of footwork. Dance Instructor Lacy Warfel leads the class.

Feb. 12Circus Arts Prop Dance, which features LED tea lights balanced on trays in what figures to be a humorous dance to learn.

Feb. 19Romani Skirt Dance, an upbeat, saucy skirt dance with some accents from Flamenco, belly dance and Venezuelan folk steps. Participants should wear their fluffiest, fullest skirt, with seven yards or more at the hem preferred.

Feb. 26Belly Dancing, led by Pamela Doty of the Beledi Magic Dance Company, and featuring a beginner's course in belly dance.

Registration is required separately for each of the programs, and each participant must sign a waiver before the event. Those under age 18 must have parent/guardian consent and signature on the waiver.
