Dogs and reading go hand in hand at the Newcastle Public Library and its longtime Share a Story program. In August, young readers will have multiple chances to read with visiting therapy dogs.
Maggie will be at the library from 10 a.m. to noon while Bubba will visit from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, Aug. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.
The goal of the program is for reluctant readers to be able to sit with the dog and read to them in a non-threatening atmosphere.
Registration for a 15-minute increment to read should be made in advance through library staff or by calling the library at 387-5076.
