Friday means school's out, but we're open

Georgia in Hawaii coverWith school out on Friday afternoons, the Newcastle Public Library invites children to take part in a variety of afternoon activities on most Fridays.

Events are slated at 2 p.m. each of the first four Fridays of September at the library. The schedule features:

Sept. 1Art for School Age Children: This month, participants will learn about Georgia O’Keeffe. After reading the book Georgia in Hawaii by Amy Novesky, the group will create a close-up leaf picture in O’Keeffe’s style. Supplies are provided by the Friends of the Newcastle Library.

Sept. 8KEVA Planks Building Fun: Get a look at one of the library’s STEAM Power Maker Kits, and use the KEVA Planks to build a variety of objects.

Sept. 15Book-N-Cook: Go through the book “Cora Cooks Pansit” by Dorina K. Lazo Gilmore and then  cook the Filipino noodle dish Pansit using the recipe that’s included in the book.

Sept. 22Movie Matinee: It’s a showing of the animated classic based on Kate DiCamillo’s Newbery Award winning book “The Tale of Despereaux.”
