Friday afternoon activities slated throughout December

Gingerbread Houses coverThe Newcastle Public Library gives local students a variety of options for activities on Fridays during December.

Each program begins at 2 p.m. and are for ages 11 and under. The dates and offerings are:

Dec. 1Book-N-Cook, with participants making gingerbread houses while using the book No-bake Gingerbread Houses for Kids by Lisa Turner Anderson. All supplies are provided thanks to the Friends of the Newcastle Library, and those who choose can enter their house in a contest sponsored by the Newcastle Chamber of Commerce.

Dec. 8STEAM-It Friday, using technology to create paper airplanes that can be controlled remotely through a smartphone app or an iPad. Children that don’t have their own phone or iPad can borrow one from the library.

Dec. 22Art for School-Age Children, focusing on the style of Wouter Van Reek from his book Coppernickel Goes Mondrian. Supplies are provided by the Newcastle Friends.

Dec. 29Crafts for School-Age Children, with participants making a variety of paper snowflakes based on the Caldecott Medal-winning book Snowflake Bentley by Jacqueline Briggs Martin.

Registration is required separately for each of the programs.
