The Newcastle Public Library continues its Art 101 series for adults with a trip to the sea and a celebration of The Big Read in its next event. “Art 101: Seascape” takes place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14.
Participants will make their own acrylic painting of a seascape, with The Big Read novel, A Wizard of Earthsea as the inspiration for participants’ work.
All paint and supplies will be provided by the library, although participants are invited to bring their own brushes and smock. Space is limited so register online, at the library, or by calling 387-5076 in advance.
This is the ninth year for the library to take part in The Big Read, a presentation of the National Endowment for the Arts. This year’s novel, written by Ursula K. Le Guin, is the first fantasy-genre novel to be featured by the Pioneer Library System.
The Big Read is a presentation of the National Endowment for the Arts and managed by Arts Midwest. The Big Read is funded by grant support from NEA, the Norman Arts Council, Oklahoma Humanities Council, the Anne and Henry Zarrow Foundation, Friends of the Norman Public Library and the Pioneer Library System Foundation.
