Share a story with a therapy dog this summer

The Newcastle Public Library’s therapy dog program gives many opportunities for young readers to make a new friend while practicing their reading.

The goal of the child's furry buddy is to be a good listener. Young readers are able to read them stories in a non-threatening, non-judgmental environment, which important for every child's development during the formative years. Parents or caregivers can reserve a time slot for their children between the age 4 and 13 to read to a dog by visitng the front desk of the library or by calling 387-5076.

Dates, times and dogs at the library during June are:

Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to noon: June 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 with Maggie;

Tuesdays, 1 to 6 p.m.: June 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 with either Riley or Sadie;

Thursdays, 3 to 5 p.m.June 4, 11, 18 and 25 with Rusty.
