National Novel Writing Month, more commonly known in the writing community as NaNoWriMo, has become a yearly event for writers.
And Norman Public Library Central, along with several libraries in the Pioneer Library System, are working together to give local writers good ideas to get them started in participating this year. Norman Central's teen and adult writing groups welcome any local writers to join a NaNoWriMo University Prep event, at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at Norman's Barnes & Noble store, 540 Ed Noble Parkway.
This program gives an opportunity for participants to share ideas about their plans and experiences they've had if they've been part of NaNoWriMo in the past.
For this month only, the library's teen and adult writing groups are meeting together to look ahead to NaNoWriMo together. The teen group, The Write Club, generally meets at 2 p.m. the second Sunday of the month, with the adult group "Write On!" having its monthly meeting immediately following at 3 p.m.
The NaNoWriMo program is part of a series taking place throughout the month in libraries in Norman, Moore and Southwest Oklahoma City leading up the launch date for authors Nov. 1.
Upcoming sessions will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16 at the Moore Public Library, 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23 at the Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library, and 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at Norman Central. A previous session took place at Norman Public Library West.
