Film, discussion focus on PLS Big Read's "Being Mortal"

PLSBigReadLogoIf you were diagnosed with a serious life-limiting illness, what would be the things that would matter most to you and who would you want to know?

The Pioneer Library System is tackling that topic in its activities surrounding the 11th edition of its PLS Big Read, focusing on the novel Being Mortal by Atul Gawande.

Each library will host a screening for the FRONTLINE film "Being Mortal," followed by a panel discussion. The 60-minute film was produced by the WGBH Educational Foundation in Boston. Norman Public Library Central's presentation will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 9, in the Lowry Room. Scholar Annette Prince will lead the post-film discussion.

Being Mortal was the 2015 Indies Choice Book Award winner in the Adult Non-Fiction category. The author also is the recipient of the Lewis Thomas Prize for Writing about Science and two national magazine awards.

Sponsors for this year's PLS Big Read are the Pioneer Library System Foundation and the Anne and Henry Zarrow Foundation.
