Norman Public Library Central again will offer multiple resources for local residents as they face the income tax season.
Two separate groups will offer free assistance for those making less than $53,000 per year.
Trained volunteers from the University of Oklahoma College of Law will be on hand for VITA Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sessions, from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning Jan. 31 and running through April 12.
Taxpayers are asked to bring the following items:
Proof of identification – Picture ID
Social Security Cards for self, spouse and dependents or a Social Security Number verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) assignment letter for self, spouse and dependents
Proof of foreign status, if applying for an ITIN
Birth dates for self, spouse and dependents on the tax return
Wage and earning statement(s) Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, 1099-Misc from all employers
Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099)
A copy of last year’s federal and state returns if available
Proof of bank account routing numbers and account numbers for Direct Deposit, such as a blank check
Total paid for daycare provider and the daycare provider’s tax identifying number (the provider's Social Security Number or the provider's business Employer Identification Number) if appropriate
Help is given on a first-come, first-served basis and no advance registration is taken.
The library also has resources for printing forms or accessing online tax forms. However, library staff are not certified in tax preparation or to answer questions about filling out forms themselves.
