Teen Summer Reading Program art mosaic unveiled Sept. 1

The Shawnee Public Library’s Teen Summer Reading Program is leaving a lasting reminder of this year’s activities in the form of a mosaic art piece crafted with the help of teens this summer.

The piece will be unveiled in its permanent home inside the library in a ceremony at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Local artist and Oklahoma Baptist University Assistant Professor of Art Julie Blackstone guided teens in the design of the mosaic. This has become a yearly project for teens to work with Blackstone on an art mosaic that later is displayed inside the library. Past projects adorn walls in the Community Rooms, Children’s Department and the lobby of the library.

The project is funded by support from the Junior Service League of Shawnee.
