Award-winning author Rilla Askew to share “Most American” stories

Rilla AskewThe Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library welcomes award-winning author Rilla Askew for a visit and reading from her newest work at 6 p.m. Monday, June 5, in Rooms A and B.

Askew’s newest work is Most American: Notes from a Wounded Place, a collection of nine linked essays the spotlight the complex history of several events in her home state of Oklahoma. The essays go into topics ranging from the Trail of Tears to the Tulsa Race Riot to the Murrah Building bombing.

This is Askew’s first nonfiction work, following the novels The Mercy SeatFire in BeulahHarpsong and Kind of Kin, as well as a collection of linked stories, Strange Business.

Askew will have a meet and greet with readers at 6 p.m. before doing a reading from the book at 6:30. The event is for either teens or adults, and registration is not required in advance.
