Therapy dog reading program coming to the library

Reading dogBeginning later this month, the Tecumseh Public Library will host a monthly time for young readers to Read to Therapy Dogs. The first editions of the program are scheduled for 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, and 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Oct. 27. In November, sessions are scheduled for 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Nov. 13 and 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 17.

The goal of the program is to be a place for reluctant new readers to build their confidence while reading to a new furry friend who won’t try to correct them or be impatient with them. It’s been a successful program in several of the hometown libraries in PLS.

Dogs and trainers from The Doggie Spot in Shawnee will be making the monthly visits.

To sign up for a time for a child to read, call or visit the library.
