Community Information - any time and any place

Computer The internet makes the world available to you with a tap of the fingertips and a click of the mouse - but sometimes what you really need is a good resource for local information.

Search engines like Google, Yahoo and LocalSearch provide a corporate take on locating local information - but sometimes it takes a local effort to provide the best hometown information. Luckily Oklahoma has statewide resources that are meant to help individuals find resources and services in their area.

JOIN is an online tool developed by several state agencies whose mission is:

" provide Oklahomans information about available public and private social services and other resources, to facilitate easy access and referral to those services and resources, and make de-identified information available for policy analysis, planning, reporting, and program evaluation.

Our focus is on Oklahomans that require services. We recognize that the agency staff, at all levels, are primary consumers of this system and will find it beneficial to use. Indirect customers are the legislature and, ultimately, the taxpayers of the State of Oklahoma."

Suggesting additional local services and resources for addition to JOIN is as simple as filling out the online Suggest a Link form. And if you are unsure as to the type of services you are eligible for there is even an online Questionnaire you can fill out to see if you are a match to a program.

If searching the internet isn't your thing, then you may consider calling 2-1-1 on your house or cellular phone. 2-1-1 is an easy to remember, free 24-hour telephone number that connects people with important community services seven days a week, 365 days a year. A statewide service it has designated call centers serving specific geographical areas of the state. Certified specialists work from a computerized database which includes current information on area health and human service agencies including state government, nonprofits, faith-based organizations and others.

So whether you are a internet user or prefer telephone assistance there is help available for individuals to search for local community information.
