February is Black History Month, a time to celebrate heritage. Throughout the month, PLS will offer activities and gatherings to interest patrons in learning and appreciating history and culture.

Gospel Celebration

GospelThis February 16th, the Singers Unto the Lord will sing gospel classics that celebrate the contribution of black gospel music to American culture. Put on your Sunday best and come join the fun. Light hors d'oeurves will be served.

The celebration will be held at the Moore Public Library in Rooms A & B from 11:00 AM to 12:30 AM. Register online to reserve an opening. Hurry because spots fill up quickly! Please contact Jackie Kropp at 405.793.4349 for further information.

Crowns Tea

Crowns Tea 2012On February 24th, the Norman Public Library will host the 9th Annual Crowns Tea. This event celebrates the Black Tradition of the Church Hat. Free tickets are required and available at the end of the African American Read-In on February 3rd and afterwards at the Information Services Desk.

There will be two seatings of this event at 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM. The event will be held in the Lowry Room. Please contact Judy Day at 405.701.2626 for further information.

On February 3rd, the Norman Public Library will host the African American Read-In. The festivities will occur in the Lowry Room from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Please contact Judy Day at 405.701.2626 for more information if it is needed.



The Big Read Writing Contest

Light bulbPLS is conducting a Short Story Writing Contest based off of the plot of the novel Old School by Tobias Wolff as past of The Big Read 2013. The contest ends March 15 so get your submissions in fast! Check out the submision requirements and judging criteria here.

The winners and their guests will be guests of the Pioneer Library System Foundation at a reception for Tobias Wolff on April 24.
