April 2013

Here's a look at what this month has in store for you at your hometown library!

Scheduled Closings for April

No library closings.

Hello Visitor,

Big Read 2013

Old School

Big Read 2013 takes the reader to New England in the early 1960s, through the Tobias Wolff novel Old School

This coming of age story follows a young man trying to find his place and fulfill his dreams of being a writer. Through his development, themes of tradition, class, and self-identity are explored. Old School is a novel that celebrates American literature while it tells a heartwarming coming of age story.

You won't want to miss the chance to hear Tobias Wolff speak about his work on April 25.

Poetry Month

April is National Poetry Month! National Poetry Month was established in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets. It is a time where thousands of organizations and millions of people band together to celebrate, appreciate, and create poetry.

With this in mind, the Norman Public Library is celebrating its 17th annual poetry contest. Poetry writers from sixth grade to adults are invited to enter. The contest is sponsored by The Friends of the Norman Public Library. Last year more than 300 poems were submitted. All poems are judged anonymously by judges from outside the library.

Entry forms will be available at the Information Desk beginning March 4th. Contestants may enter up to 3 poems each. Entry forms cannot be mailed. The deadline for entries is April 12th. The winners will be announced and prizes awarded during the Poetry Celebration on April 25th at 6:00 p.m..
