2010 was a good year for the Pioneer Library System. We celebrated new buildings, new staff and wonderful customers. Looking at what is planned for 2011 - we are certain that you will agree - we've got a wonderful year ahead.

The Thing they CarriedBig Read 2011

The 2011 Big Read Book, The Things They Carried, depicts the men of Alpha Company: Jimmy Cross, Henry Dobbins, Rat Kiley, Mitchell Sanders, Norman Bowker, Kiowa, & of course, the character Tim O'Brien who has survived his tour in Vietnam to become a father & writer at the age of forty-three.

As in past Big Read years, PLS is offering a wide assortment of events planned around the chosen book - including a song writing contest.

Author Visitsopen book

This coming year we will have several authors visit to share their books and experiences with Pioneer Library System card holders. Keep your eyes open for visits from the following authors:

January: Mark Bravo, author of Momentum: 77 Observations Toward a Life Well Lived.

February: Bill Severns, author of Keepers of the Sandlot

April: Tim O'Brien, author of The Things They Carried.

July: Kelsy Timmerman, author of Where Am I Wearing: a Global Tour to the Countries, factories, & People that Make Our Clothes.

September (last week): Moore Friends of the Library Book Sale
October (first week): Shawnee Friends of the Library Book Sale
October (mid month): McLoud Friends of the Library Book Sale
October 14-17: Norman Friends of the Library Book Sale

Or you can visit the libraries in person and take advantage of the on-going book sale shelves during the rest of the year. Be sure to watch our calendar for specifics dates & times on the big book sales.
