March into spring with many activities for kids

Child with carsNobody loves reading like your local librarians, and Norman Public Library Central is filled with activities for children of all ages during its weekly offerings presented by the children's services department of the library..

The schedule for children’s programming in March features the following:

Mondays – At 10 a.m. is Story Time, geared to ages 2 to 5 with stories, music and more;

Wednesdays – Families with babies ages 24 months and younger are invited to Baby Story Time at 10 a.m. Then later in the day, the After School Special at 3:30 p.m. features activities for children in kindergarten, first grade and second grade;

Thursdays – At 4 p.m., STEAM Tweens takes a look into technology and more for ages 8 to 12. And at 6 p.m., the Library Music Connection features activities for young music lovers ages 3 to 7;

Fridays – Rhythm Babies, at 10 a.m., is a music-based story time for children age 24 months and younger and their caregivers;

Saturdays – At 11 a.m. is a weekend version of the library’s Story Time, with activities geared to ages 2 to 5. And at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, a special bilingual activity Cantos y Cuentos (Songs and Stories) is offered for children of all ages.

And, during Spring Break week March 18-22, the library will present special events each day, including:

All About Alpacas, 2 p.m. Monday, March 18 – Magnolia Blossom Ranch visits to show off and share about some of their alpacas;

Critter Fest, 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, March 19 – The Oklahoma City Herpetological and Invertebrate Society will provide an up-close look at a variety of reptiles, amphibians and bugs;

Won’t You Be My Neighbor? A Celebration of Mr. Rogers, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 20 – Come and go throughout the day for a celebration of the birthday of Fred Rogers, creator of “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” with a day of activities to help spread kindness;

Absolutely Incredible Kids’ Afternoon, 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, March 21 – Celebrate with a dance party as well as come-and-go obstacle course games;

Recycled Box City, 2 to 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 22 – Ages 4 and up are invited to build their own creations out of boxes and tape.

Registration is not required to attend any of the events.
