Activities promote a love of reading for children

Baby readsNorman Public Library West presents a number of regular programs encouraging reading and a love of libraries for young readers.

The weekly Story Time: Budding Bookworms, is scheduled at 10 a.m. on Tuesday mornings the library is open. It includes books, games, music and more geared to children up to pre-K age.

And new readers can practice their reading and make a new friend on Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Sit! Stay! Read! Therapy dogs will visit to listen to young readers in an encouraging environment.

In August, the library also presents the special bilingual activity, Family Play Time/la hora de jugar en familia, at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18.

Activities are for ages 5 and under and their caregivers and is a chance for children to learn and develop their brains through simple play. The program is part of the Pioneer Library System’s Growing Like a Read initiative and were made possible from a contribution from an anonymous donor to PLS in 2015.
