Stop in at the library for activities, great books and more in the New Year

Purcell KidsLooking for great reads and ways to enjoy the winter months? The Purcell Public Library has you covered with the Pioneer Library System’s collection of more than 675,000 books, magazines, DVDs and downloadable items.

Materials can be transferred between PLS libraries within a matter of days and be in readers’ hands for a nice evening in from the cold with a captivating read.

The library also will begin the New Year with an array of program options for various ages and featuring many topics.

Among the upcoming offerings in early January are:

Tuesday mornings are a great time for families with young children to visit the library for activities set at 10:30 a.m. most weeks. Preschool and Toddler Story Time are offered on Jan. 8 and Jan. 22, with the bilingual activity Family Play Time/la hora de jugar, taking place Jan. 29.

A special event on Jan. 15 is Story Time Play Date, which focuses on the book “Snow Happy” by Patricia Hubble, with activities including stories, a hot cocoa snack and even a “snowball” fight.

Older children can attend the Thursday After School STEAM series scheduled at 3:15 p.m. each Thursday of the month. Topics will range from circuitry to slime making to creating with Legos.
