September brings the start of fall, a thankful break from the hot temperatures and also a great variety of activities for young readers and soon-to-be readers inside the Shawnee Public Library.
Join us for the following events:
Story Time, scheduled twice on each Tuesday of the month, at 10:30 a.m. and again at 4:30 p.m. Activities are geared to children ages 2 ½ to 5 and will include stories, music, rhymes and early literacy activities.
Story Time also goes on the road to Shawnee Mall at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays. Meet in the mall’s Center Court for stories and more.
For children just a little older is Science Monday, at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10. Geared to children in kindergarten through second grades, this afterschool activity is a hands-on learning opportunity with a science theme.
This month, attendees will hear a story told by the Muskogee (Creek) Indians of present-day Oklahoma about how the sun got into the sky. After learning facts about the Sun, the group will make a simple sundial in a fun way to teach kids about the Sun’s path in the sky.
The library also has a Thursday morning series for children. The September schedule includes:
Sept. 6 and Sept. 20, 10:30 a.m. – Wiggle to the Music Story Time, a morning of music and creative movement for ages 2 to 5;
Sept. 13, 10 a.m. – Stress Relief Story Time, led by a certified infant massage instructor teaching calming activities that promote literacy;
No advance registration is required to attend any of the programs.
