The Maker Mobile brings STEAM-focused programming (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) into our communities through cooperation with schools, programs in PLS libraries and information stations, participation in community events, and scheduled appointments with special audiences and individuals.
This amazing workshop on wheels features two 3D printers, a digital scanner, CNC Mill, two laser cutters, laptop lab, informational touchscreen computer that connects customers with the library’s digital and print resources, STEAM kits, and an onboard circulating collection of “maker” books. This state-of-the-art mobile technology center is complete with broadband internet access, connecting to the internet from virtually any location. The vehicle generates its own power, so all the onboard technologies and equipment operate in even the most remote locations. A drop-down stage with stairs and a wheelchair lift offer access to the equipment housed inside as well as enabling transport of equipment to inside locations. A fully-automated retractable awning provides shade during the day and a complete tripod lighting system provides illumination when the sun goes down. The PLS Maker Mobile is ready for action, day or night.
