By focusing our early childhood programming efforts on early literacy and school readiness, PLS invests in a vibrant and sustainable future for our community. We endeavor to provide high quality, developmentally-appropriate programming for all children and families.
The literacy skills that are developed in these early years help support the language skills needed for overall learning for the rest of a child’s life. Research from the American Pediatrics Association confirms that children who are introduced to reading early in life tend to both read earlier and excel in school.
PLS builds upon a child’s early literacy foundation by supporting continuing development of language & literacy. Additional skill development includes: math & science, social & emotional, physical, and school readiness skills needed to thrive and excel through Pre-K and beyond. We know that fourth grade marks a vital time in reading development where students transition from learning to read, to reading to learn.
