As a trusted and embedded community partner, Pioneer Library System has a history of supporting workforce development through job search assistance, business support, online high school scholarships, and skills-building resources. With a concentration on upward mobility, PLS builds upon traditional workforce development efforts by equipping people in our communities with the skills and knowledge needed to not only become gainfully employed, but to also advance and thrive in modern society. In doing so, we are expanding our upward mobility efforts to engage community members of all ages, from childhood through adulthood.
In addition to providing equitable workforce services and resources, PLS strengthens workforce development by supporting the cultivation of the critical skills needed to enhance individuals’ career opportunities and pursuits. Exposure to a diverse array of potential careers through career exploration enables community members of all ages to discover local career opportunities that align with their own interests, strengths, and values to create clearer, more attainable goals for their future. Given that 99% of businesses in Oklahoma are small businesses, many of these goals involve entrepreneurship and business support in navigating how to successfully start and maintain one’s own business. In addition to expanding career pathways, PLS also supports the development of the financial literacy skills needed to effectively manage money and create a stable foundation throughout one’s life.
PLS boosts our community’s upward mobility by empowering individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to confidently grow and maintain a more secure future. In doing so, PLS promotes the overall economic development and stability of our collective communities.
