How do I download the PLS Connect App to my iPhone?

 

 1. Tap on the App Store icon 

2. Use the search bar to find PLS Connect 

3. Tap on the PLS Connect app icon. 

4. Tap install and then tap Accept.

5. Open the app when download is complete.

6. You will need your Library Card Number and PIN(last 4 digits of your phone number) to access your account.  

    If you do not have a library card, tap Apply for a Library Card or visit the library. 

 

Once you log in, it will take you to your Account page, where you can view your account information, edit your PIN, and view your checkouts, holds, overdue items, and fines. 

 

At the bottom of the page are more options to view: 

Bookshelf: allows you to view your current checkouts and items on hold.

 

Popular: displays the library's current popular titles and also allows you to place a hold on the book you wish to checkout or download the digital version, if available.

 

Events: allows you to view the events occurring at your home branch.

 

Calendar Event: tapping an event from the events listing will show you details about the event. 

 

More: Gives you more options to view. Library News allows you to view the library news occuring at your home branch. Volunteer brings you to our Volunteer page and shows you available volunteer opportunities. My Learning brings you to our reading challenge website, where we usually have a reading challenge to participate in. FAQ will bring you to our most asked questions and answers, and Ask Us allows you to get questions answered by text message or email.

At the top right of every page is a card icon. Tap this to add multiple cards to your account. To use them, tap a card to sign in with that card's information. To use another card, tap another card and the app will sign you out of the first card and in to the second one. This allows families to manage multiple accounts with one app.

 

At the top left of every screen is a magnifying glass icon. Tap this to Search Books which allows you to search our physical and digital databases for books and digital magazines, and place holds or download digital versions. Use the icon at the bottom right of the screen to search by Title, Author or Keyword - We are aware that this feature is not working as intended. Our developers are working on a fix and it should be in place shortly.

 

 

At the top right of the search screen is a barcode icon. Use this to access a scanner which you can use to scan a book's barcode and search our database to see if we own the title.

How do I use Hoopla?

Hoopla is a streaming service that lets you instantly borrow eBooks, audiobooks, comics, music, movies & TV - 24/7 and FREE with your library card. Items are always available, so there's no waiting! Items can be streamed or downloaded on a computer, Android, Apple, Roku, Amazon Fire or Chromecast device.

 

Getting started:

1. To use Hoopla on a computer, go to www.hoopladigital.com and click Get Started Today. To use it on a tablet or smartphone, download the free Hoopla app from your app store and sign up in the app.

2. Create your Hoopla account by completing the form.

3. Choose your library (Pioneer Library System, Norman, OK) from the populated list on the next page, or search by zip code, and then click Next.

4. Add your library card number and PIN (usually the last 4 digits of your phone number) on the next page and click Sign Me Up.

Once your library card has been successfully connected, you will be shown information about how your account works.

Items can only be streamed if using a computer. 

 

Hoopla app:

Items can be streamed and downloaded with the Hoopla app. Go to www.hoopladigital.com/help for specific device instructions.

Download the app for your device from your app store and log in with your Hoopla account, or create one.

 

Using Hoopla:

  • Each cardholder can borrow 6 items per month.
  • Borrow limits reset on the 1st of each month.
  • Most movies and TV episodes are available for 72 hours (3 days) from the time you borrow the title.
  • Most music albums are available for 7 days.
  • Most audiobooks, comics & eBooks are available for 21 days.

1. Use the Search bar to find titles or click Browse to browse through genres or browse categories.

2. Click or tap a title to see more information about it. Tap Borrow to view/read/listen to it now or tap the heart icon to add it to your Favorites list to borrow later.

 

My Hoopla features:

Access your My Hoopla account from the top left.

You can manage your personal profile details, see what's currently borrowed and see your Favorites and History.

 

Renewing items:

Items can be renewed before they are due. Renewing an item will use one of your remaining borrows for the month.

 

Returning items:

You can return a title by clicking the Return Now button located at the bottom of the title or on the title info page.

Returning items early does not give you additional borrows for the month.

How do I download the PLS Connect App to my Android device?

1. Tap on the Google Play Store icon.

2. Tap on the search bar and type PLS Connect.

3. Tap the PLS Connect App Icon.

How do I use the Libby app?

apple iPad and iPhoneLibby is a simplified app from OverDrive for borrowing ebooks and MP3 audiobooks. It is available for Android, iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch), and Windows 10. The app does not offer all the functionality of the OverDrive app, but does have the features that are used the most. If you've never read or listened to ebooks or MP3 audiobooks before, Libby is the app to use. If you're happy with the OverDrive app, there's no need to switch.

Here are the basic directions for downloading an ebook or audiobook with the Libby app:

Getting Started

1. Open the app store

2. Search for Libby by OverDrive

3. Install the app

 

Set up Libby App

1. Open the Libby app

2. Tap Yes if you have a library card with us. If you don't, you'll need to apply for one first. 

3. Tap I'll Search for a Library

4. Search for Pioneer Library System Oklahoma, your City, or your Zip Code.

5. Tap Pioneer Library System

6. Choose whether you want to read books on your Kindle (you must have an Amazon.com account) or if you want to read in the Libby app.

     - If you're not sure, choose to read in the Libby app.

7. Tap Enter the Library

 

Checkout eBooks and Audiobooks

1. Find an ebook or audiobook with the Search box at the top or scroll down and tap Explore All Subjects

      - Audiobooks will have a heahphones icon 

2. Tap a book cover, and then tap the Borrow button underneath title

      - If it isn't available, tap Place a Hold

3. Enter your Pioneer Library Card number & PIN (usually last 4 digits of your phone number)

4. Tap Borrow. Items are automatically downloaded to the app. 

5. Choose whether to Go to Shelf, to start reading or listening, or to Keep Browsing to check out more items

 

Read eBook or Listen to Audiobook

1. Tap Shelf in the lower right corner of app

Return eBook or Audiobook

Titles will automatically return at the end of checkout period. You may return titles early, though.

Change Lending Period

You can do this when you borrow a title. 

1. After you tap Borrow, tap the underlined loan period on the confirmation page (before you tap Borrow again). 

2. Change lending period to 7, 14, or 21 days

3. The loan period you choose becomes your default, but you can change it later when you borrow a title again, if you wish.

How do I apply for a library card?

There are three types of library cards: a Full Service Library Card, which provides access to online materials as well as books and videos inside our hometown libraries, a Virtual Library Card, which provides access to online materials only, or a Reciprocal Library Card, which provides access to library materials for individuals who live in the Metropolitan Library System service area.

 

► To apply for a Library Card, complete the online form.

 

Just So You Know:

If you already have a library card, you do not need a Virtual Library Card to access online resources. Your current PLS library card already grants you access to our online resources!
If you currently have a library card and do not know your PIN (usually last 4 digits of phone #), please use the PIN Reset Form to reset your PIN.

How do I use Kanopy?

Kanopy is a streaming movie service that offers access to a large, curated catalog of educational, entertaining, and enriching films. It includes content from leading producers such as Criterion Collection, The Great Courses, PBS, BBC, and many more. Movies can be streamed on a computer, Android, Apple, Roku, Amazon Fire or Chromecast device.

 

Getting started:

1. Go to https://pioneer.kanopy.com and click Sign Up.

Note: this must be done in an internet browser and not in the Kanopy app.

2. Create your Kanopy account by entering your first name, last name, email address and a password you create, or click Facebook or Google to use those accounts. If you sign up with your email address, you will be sent a verification email to your email address. This email will come from This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Click Verify My Email to continue your account setup.

3. Click Add a library card on the next page and enter your library card number and PIN (usually the last 4 digits of your phone number) and click Save.

Kanopy app:

Kanopy can be streamed on an Android, Apple, Roku, Amazon Fire or Chromecast device with the free Kanopy app.

Download the app for your device from your app store and log in with your Kanopy account to stream movies.

Movies cannot be downloaded.

 

Using Kanopy:

  • Each cardholder has 6 play credits per month, which means 6 movies per month.
  • Once you press play on a film, you have 3 days to watch it as many times as you want without using up another movie credit.
  • Play credits reset on the 1st of each month.

How does an author submit an item for consideration?

Authors may submit items for consideration as an addition to the Pioneer Library System collection. If you have an item to submit, fill out and mail the Author Submissions/Donation Form with a copy of the item to the appropriate selector. A review copy is necessary for consideration, unless the material has been reviewed.

9. Select the parts you want to download and click OK to begin download

10. The book will download into the OverDrive Media Console. You can listen to the book on the computer or transfer it to your device. 

 

Transfer audiobook to your device

1. Plug device into computer with USB cord

2. Select the book you want to transfer

3. Click the Transfer button along the top

4. The Transfer Wizard box will pop up and walk you through transferring the book

5. The book will transfer to your device and you can listen to it

How do I reserve rooms at the library?

Most of our branches offer customer the ability to book rooms at the library. Rooms can be booked 90 days in advance, and room use must adhere to the Meeting Room Policies at each branch. 

Each library has its own criteria for booking, so be sure to look at the Meeting Room Policy for the branch you want to book. Policies can be found here.  

 

To request a room reservation:

1. Visit our reservation site for available rooms at your preferred branch.

2. Choose date and branch from left side of page.

3. Choose time by clicking the start time box for your reservation and the end time box. 15 minutes automatic set up and break down time will be added to the reservation.

4. Click Choose and enter your information on the next page. Tip: Enter your library card number & PIN, click Find details, and your information will be automatically entered.

5. Click and read the room booking terms and conditions for the branch.

6. Click the box that says you have read and agree to the booking terms, and click Next.

7. Use the resulting  reference number to track the status of your request at http://pioneer.libnet.info/myreservations.

8. Branch will contact you when request is approved or declined.

13. The eBook will be sent wirelessly to your Kindle device/app the next time it is connected to a WiFi internet signal

Here are the basic steps for reading magazines with through the Pioneer Library System Connect app, or through Flipster either online or through the Flipster app.

Search the library’s catalog, read ebooks on demand, send items to Kindle, stream audiobooks, read Flipster eMagazines, manage your account and find popular titles instantly. You can access Flipster from any computer, smartphone, or tablet connected to the Internet. Flipster has been tested and confirmed to work on your computer with the following browsers: Internet Explorer 8+, FireFox 28+, Safari 5.1+, Google Chrome 33+
Notes:

  • If you are using an older browser, Flipster may function properly, but your results may vary.
  • The recommended screen resolution is 1024 x 768
  • Internet Explorer 8 users should turn off Compatibility View by clicking the button next to the web address bar in their browser. Compatibility View may cause some areas of EBSCO interfaces to not display correctly.
  • Adobe Flash Player 10.0 or later is required to use Text-To-Speech on interfaces in which it is available.

 

Flipster App

The Flipster app manages your magazines downloaded from the Flipster website for offline viewing. Currently a mobile app is available for the iPad and iPad Mini, Android Tablets, and Kindle Fire.

     

1. Using your device’s internet browser, go to Flipster and tap on a magazine to read.The magazine opens in the mobile viewer.

2. Tap the menu in the upper left hand corner and select Open in App. The Flipster app opens and downloads the magazine.

3. Once the download has completed, the magazine is available to read.

What is my PIN?

 

By default, PINs are set to the last 4 digits of the phone number on your library card application. For example, if your phone number is 405-555-1234, your PIN will be 1234.

If you try the last 4 digits of your phone number, and it does not work, please complete the PIN Reset Form
An email from noreply@yourlibrary via pionr.sirsi.net will be sent to the email address in your account and you will use the link in the email to reset your PIN. If you do not have an email address listed in your account, please call your hometown library or use our Ask Us option to live chat with a staff member.

What are the library policies?

The Board of Trustees has its own website that hosts our library policies. If you are interested in learning more about these policies, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Board of Trustees link at the bottom of the website.
  2. Click on the Policies tab.

Getting Started

1. Open the app store

2. Search for OverDrive

3. Install the app

 

Set up OverDrive App

1. Open the OverDrive app.

2. Follow the prompts to create an OverDrive account or use the app anonymously if you are under 13.

 3. Add a library.

-In newer app versions, swipe from left to right to open the Home menu, then tap Add a library.

-In older app versions, tap Add a library (if you don't have icon, go to Menu > Get Books).

4. Search for Pioneer Library System, City, or Zip Code.

5. Tap the star to save Pioneer Library System

 

Checkout eBooks and Audiobooks

1. Tap Pioneer Library System to browse titles.

2. Find an ebook or audiobook with the Search icon (magnifying glass) in the top left or browse one of the categories listed in the purple bar

3. Tap the Borrow button underneath title

      - If it isn't available, tap Place a Hold

4. Enter your Pioneer Library Card number & PIN
    - If you do not have one, please apply for a library card at any hometown library.

5. You will see a notification bar which says the title is checked out to you. Tap Loans from this bar, or tap the icon of books in the top right to go to your Loans.

6. Tap Download

7. -If it is an eBook, select ePUB

How do I renew books and DVDs?

We have automatic renewals for most items.  

The rules for renewals:

  • Eligible items will renew on the due date.
  • Eligible items will be renewed up to three times.
  • Items requested by another borrower are not renewable.
  • There are some special collections that are not eligible for renewable, such as Sizzlers, Movie Box movies, Interlibrary Loan items and book discussion kits.

If you would like to renew items early, you can use the library website or the PLS Connect app.

 

Use the library website

- Go to pioneerlibrarysystem.org and click Catalog

- Log in to the catalog and click My Account

- Click the Checkouts tab and select the items you would like to renew, then click Renew

How do I use the OverDrive ebooks on an ereader that uses a USB cord transfer?

Getting Started

Install Adobe Digital Editions on PC or Mac and activate it with an Adobe ID

- Download and install Adobe Digital Editions at adobe.com/products/digitaleditions

- If you do not have an Adobe ID or forgot your log in, visit adobe.ly/9xXHgv

 

Download the ebook to your computer

1. Go to PLS OverDrive website: https://pioneerok.overdrive.com/

2. Sign in with your library card number and PIN (usually last 4 digits of phone number)

3. Find an ebook or audiobook with the Search icon (magnifying glass) in the top left or browse one of the categories listed in the purple bar

4. Click Borrow button (or place a hold button if it is checked out)

5. You will see a notification bar which says the title is checked out to you. Tap Loans from this bar, or tap the icon of books in the top right to go to your Loans.

6. Tap Download, and select the ePUB format

7. Click Confirm

8. Click Open with Adobe Digital Editions when the box pops up (never select Save).

9. Adobe Digital Editions will open and the book will download.

10. You can read it on the computer or transfer it to an ereader

 

Transfer the ebook to your ereader:

1. Click Library in top left corner

2. Plug ereader into computer with USB cord. It will show up in Adobe Digital Editions in the left hand column underneath Devices

Note: If this is the first time you have used your ereader with Adobe Digital Editions, it will ask you to authorize the ereader.

3. Click on the cover of the ebook, on the right hand side of the screen and drag it to the name of your ereader in the left column. (It will have a red X as you drag it that turns into a green + when you are over the ereader name)

4. A box will pop up and show the book transferring (it may happen fast and be easy to miss).

5. To make sure your book is on the ereader, click on the name of the ereader and see all the books you have on it

6. If your book is on the ereader, you may now close Adobe Digital Editions, unplug the ereader and read the book. 

 

Return eBook

Titles will automatically return at the end of checkout period. You may return titles early, though.

1. Open Adobe Digital Editions

2. Right click on the book jacket (control - click for Mac)

3. Select Return Borrowed Item

 

Change Lending Period

Renew eBook

Titles may be renewed if no one else has placed a hold on it.

How do I apply for a non-resident library card?

People who live, work, attend school, or own property in communities in Pottawatomie, McClain, and Cleveland counties are eligible for library cards. Any person who is not eligible for a Pioneer Library System card, but wishes to use the Pioneer Library System may apply and pay for a non-resident library card at any of the hometown libraries.

  • Contiguous Counties Non-Resident Card: $60.00 per year (Contiguous counties include: Canadian, Lincoln, Okfuskee, Seminole, Pontotoc, Garvin, and Grady)
  • Non-contiguous Counties Non-Resident Card: $70.00 per year
  • Out-of-State Non-Resident Card: $80.00 per year

Verification of current address is required. If you do not have identification showing current address, the library card will be mailed to your address.

Why is my privilege expired?

 

The message usually means your library card has expired and it is time to renew your library card. This happens every 3 years to allow the library to update your information and make sure you are still in our service area.

You may renew your card by visiting/calling any hometown library, online through the chat service or sending an email with the following information to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.:

  • Full name
  • Birth date
  • Address
  • Phone #
  • Email
  • How you would like to receive notifications (email, phone)

Once your card is updated, you can continue enjoying all the library resources.

You may also receive this message if you registered for a library card online and did not complete the verification process.

How do I see books and DVDs on hold?

In the center of the website there are boxes labeled Card # and PIN. Enter your 14-digit library card number and 4-digit PIN in to the appropriate box.

Once you click Log In you'll be taken to your account information. Click on the third tab, labeled Holds. This will display any holds that you currently have on your account

The Status column indicates whether or not the hold is Available for pickup or still Pending to be filled. 

How do I get an item if I can't find it in the catalog?

 

If you are unable to find an item in the library catalog, there a few options available:

1. Request that the item be considered for addition to the library collection with the Suggest a Purchase Form.

2. If the item is a downloadable ebook or audiobook, request that it be considered for addition to the library collection with the Recommend a Title Directions.

3. Request the item through Interlibrary Loan, which allows you to borrow books from other libraries. Follow the Interlibrary Loan directions.

How do I see my fines?

In the center of the website there are boxes labeled Card # and PIN. Enter your 14-digit library card number and 4-digit PIN in to the appropriate box.

Once you click Log In you'll be taken to your account information. Click on the tab labeled Fines. (If you have unpaid fines, a red exclamation mark is on the tab.) This will display any fines or fees charged to your account.

The Reason column indicates why your account was charged and the Amount column indicates how much was charged.  The total amount is listed in bold at the bottom.

 

How do I update my account information?

You may update any account information by visiting your local library, calling your local library, or online through the chat option.

You can also update your information through our catalog. Click My Account, log in, and look at the information on the Personal Information tab. Edit any information that needs to be updated and click Save

Where are the Board of Trustees meeting agendas and minutes?

The Board of Trustees has its own website that hosts its meeting agendas and minutes. If you are interested in reading the agendas or minutes, follow these steps:

  1. Click on Board of Trustees link at the bottom of the website
  2. Click on the Meetings tab.
  3. Select the year you would like to view
  4. Scroll through the list to find the meeting you want to view
  5. Select the View the Agenda button or the View Minutes button.

Why is my account blocked?

Usually an account is blocked because you owe more that $15 in fines. You can check your account by logging in with your library card number and PIN (usually the last four digits of the phone number) in the center of the page. Click on the Fines tab to view your fines.

Customers with fines over $15 are blocked from checking out materials, but may use computers and online resources.

Customers who owe more than $50 are referred to Unique Management Services.  A $10 charge is added to the customer’s account to cover the cost of the UMS service. Customers referred to UMS are not cleared until items are returned and/or all charges are paid to the library.

Library fines may be paid in person at the library or online. If paying online, you must make a payment of $5 or more.

How do I create a customized event brochure?

Our event calendar now gives you the option to create customized event brochures. This allows you to create your own personalized list of events for specific age groups, event types, and/or locations.

Click the Create Brochure button to pull up the Events Brochure window. By default, the brochure will show all events at all branches for the date range shown (this may be a lot of events!):

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

You have the option to download the brochure. This will give you a PDF that can be saved or printed. You can also send the brochure to an email address, or subscribe to get an email at a specific frequency with the same filters applied.
